Children’s Scholarship Fund President: School Choice Changes Lives

Children’s Scholarship Fund provides the Partnership with the matching funds to underwrite tuition assistance for more than 300 of our children. Skip to 6:17 on the video to hear more about their other national partners.

National Recognition for the Partnership

Catholic Partnership Schools has been recognized for its innovative ‘restructuring and merging’ of schools by Today’s Catholic Teacher Teacher, a national publication.

We are one of 12 national recipients in this their 15^th Catholic Schools for Tomorrow/Innovations in Education Award. The winners appear in the just published March 2012 edition of the magazine.

Other categories, in addition to restructuring and merging of schools, are marketing, promoting Catholic identity, curriculum and instruction, use of technology, and community involvement.

This honor reinforces the argument that we are on the forefront of the movement to preserve the legacy of excellence that is a Catholic education and that the Partnership is a business and educational model for the 21^st century.

The awards will be presented at a special ceremony in Boston on April 12^th during the NCEA national conference.

Before the event, the Governor met with students from Holy Name School and when urged to continue now get the OSA2 passed
he replied, “I want that as much as you do, Sister. I’ll be at a meeting about it tonight.” In his comments, the Governor said

CPS Choir Spreads Christmas Cheer!

Are you listening? Can you hear it? It is the sound of children…singing. They are spreading Christmas Cheer by caroling throughout Camden’s downtown. In this city, where violence is on the rise and State Police are now providing back up for our Camden Police, our children are sharing little rays of light and hope and peace. They are singing for Rutgers’ students, faculty, and staff; sharing joy at Susquehanna Bank with residents and neighbors in the Victor Lofts; interrupting a protest at City Hall to pause and have a moment of peace during this incredibly busy time of year. They finished up their caroling at Cathedral Hall where they were greeted with homemade cookies and hot chocolate. Their faces were brilliant with joy as they sang, even as their little fingers froze. So even if it was for just one hour, interwoven with the unkind sounds of gun shots and sirens, our students gave a beautiful gift: a reminder that our children can overcome the struggles too well known in Camden. They can obtain an excellent education. They can give back, even as folks come together to make their education possible. May peace reign in your lives this holiday season, and in our children’s lives, and in the life of this city.

The Greater South Jersey Chorus Visits the CPS Choir

In the late summer of 2011, Mary Willard of the Greater South Jersey Chorus approached the Catholic Partnership Schools to see if a partnership was a possibility. Several meetings took place and the partnership between the CPS Choir and the GSJC Chorus began to take shape. This week, 40 adults from the GSJC joined with 30 CPS Choir students! The GSJC Chorus members performed for the students. Then they broke out into work groups to learn a new song together. Finally, our children stood side by side with the members of the GSJC to sing beautifully the song “Blessed Be Everything”. Blessed is this partnership!

Camden Diocese Principal of the Year – Mrs. Fran Montgomery, St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral

Each year, the superintendent in each arch/dioceses in the country is invited by the Department of Elementary Schools Executive Committee of the NCEA to nominate one of their principals for the National Distinguished Principal Award. We are pleased to announce that Fran Montgomery, the principal at St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral School, is being recognized as the Principal of Year for the Diocese of Camden 2011. Fran’s years and years of dedication to the children of Camden, first as teacher, and for a growing number of years as principal, speak to her calling as educator. Undoubtedly, her ongoing stance as learner, as she diligently studied for and completed her Masters, speak to her commitment to her profession.

CPS Alumni Earning Honors at Catholic High Schools

This fall, the Catholic Partnership Schools proudly sent 33 students to Catholic High Schools including Camden Catholic, Paul VI, and St. Joseph Preparatory School. Our students are working hard and the results are showing. Ten of our freshman at Camden Catholic, two of our four students at Paul VI, and both of our students at The Prep earned honor roll for the first quarter! Congratulations to our CPS Alumni! Keep up the hard work!
